I'm seeing chevron everywhere at the moment. Chevron nails, decor, DIY and plenty of outfit posts are circling the interwebs and it's fun to be a little less straight and a lot more zig-zaggin'.
Here are a couple of my fav pics.

a splash of { blue }
They say change is as good as a holiday and since I'm still on holidays (until Monday when I start my new job - yay!) I've been changing up my home decor in a bid to keep things fresh and new well into 2012.
I'm starting with the living room and have been shifting couches left, right and centre. The biggest change has been to my bookshelves, which were previously a murky shade of brown and way too matchy - matchy with my TV cabinet and couches.
I was inspired by the image below, which has a similar layout to my lounge / kitchen (which made it extra easy to visualise!) and while I couldn't convince the Mr to reupholster our couch in turquoise, I did manage to bring him around to the idea of adding a splash of colour to our otherwise neutral abode.
I repainted our previously black/brown ikea bookshelves in waterlily, after a couple of good coats of primer. I didn't even have to sand and the result is even, rich colour with no show through of the darker colour underneath. Now it's a matter of filling the shelves with coffee table books and the vintage cameras bought on ebay that have been waiting for a place to shine!
I'm planning on pairing the newly colour popping bookshelves with some really basic cushions (like the image below - love the 3 cushion) and some accessories in bright orange and navy.
And if you're looking for some inspiration on how to bring a splash of summer colour to your home, check out these beauties:

bedroom { envy }
I will not procrastinate any longer. My husband and I have been talking about re-doing the bedroom all year and I haven't decided on so much as a pillow cover. I'm hoping to have it all done by the end of January 2012 (can you believe that is just around the corner?) so am back on the hunt for inspiration.
These colourful bedrooms have me wishing the bedroom was re-done already.

brown paper { packages }
I bought my house a couple of years ago but I'm only gradually starting to fill it with things I love. The big purchases, like couches and a whole lotta bookshelves had to take priority, but it's the small, personal treasures that really make my house a home. These are just a few of my favourite things...
My mum brought this print back from India and had it framed for my birthday a few years ago. She got it after happening upon a festival of painted elephants in the middle of a forest.
We were lucky enough to join our friends Nick and Lucy at their wedding in Bali this year. We all got a pair of these little elephant candle holders as gifts. Trunks up means good luck!
My books. I'm at seven bookshelves and counting!
My jetsetting ma also brought me back this little ceramic Eiffel tower from Paris. One of it's legs fell off on the journey, but a quick superglue and it takes pride of place on my dresser.
More treasures from overseas - I bought these camels in Oman. Made by a group of women who make these ornaments to support their families, I love the colours and way they peep out from behind my books.
What are your favourite house-type things?

{ bohemian } chic
After a recent trip to NYC I have been dreaming of living there. These shots are of interior stylist Sibella Court's old NYC loft. There are no neatly lined up ornaments, or measured prints on the walls - and every one of her treasures is out on display.
Sibella has now moved back to Sydney (love that she is Australian!) and owns the store The Society Inc. in Paddington. Check out her store for all your hardware & haberdashery needs - or just to get some style ideas :)
I will definitely be paying a visit on my next trip to Sydney!

{ library } inspiration
During a recent zen de-clutter I gave away all of my books. I'll be honest and say that I miss them. There's no room in my one bedroom apartment for a library but when I do have room I'll be using these photos for inspiration.

{ bedroom bliss } decorating
You may remember me mentioning that my husband and I are in the process of re-doing our bedroom. It's been a sloooow process. At the moment our bedroom is boring, boring, boring (yes, so boring that the word deserves to be repeated three times). I've been collecting bits and pieces to help inspire me and on my recent travels I picked up these quirky doorknobs from anthropologie. Now I need to find some bedside tables to put them on....

{ working } from home
Today I am working from home. Well, working is the operative word, it's a bit hard to work when my home office is also home to a sewing machine, a bed, a stack of papers about as tall as I am and an ironing board. So I'm taking a break to daydream about my ideal workspace.

white inspiration
While looking for dark bedroom ideas for my brother I got the decoration bug and decided to look for bedroom ideas for my husband and I. We live in a little one bedroom apartment, city centre (which we love!) and are keen to change up our bedroom. My style is definitly more light and colourful and in my search for inspiration I found this amazing residence. When we re-do our bedroom I will post some before and after pics. I see lots of white with splashes of colours.

dark & cosy
My brother has been talking about re-doing his bedroom in dark tones. With my love of all things aesthetic I offered to help him with some ideas. I thought I would share some of the photos I have collected :)
